Ulrike Stancil-Martinez grew up and went to College the first ever at this young age with a major in Dentistry in Germany where she graduated with a bachelor of science degree. After she came to the United States she worked as a dental technician for most of the time, after many years in that profession, she thought it was time for a change, so she took classes and finished her diploma in Desktop Publishing and Graphic-design, still not satisfied she went back to school and got her license as Manicurist.
Even as a student in Germany she applied her talent for art as a fashion designer, and interior designer, she was always creative, she painted large murals in acrylic, made faux wall finishes, with which her clients were always happy, but it was not enough for her, until she stumbled by sheer accident onto "Mosaic" there she finally found her calling, that is what she was looking for, and what she now loves and enjoys, for her the materials that can be used, and she uses, she say's "they are calling to her", and tell her "work me" Like most artists she finds her inspirations in nature and she works nature into her art, she loves natural stone like marble and the very special glass Smalti, the marble because of its subtle tones and the Smalti because of its riches in color just the way you can find in nature which is full of rich colors and subtle tones.
As a mosaic artist she is entirely self-taught but well acknowledged by her piers, she won many first place prices with her creations and was chosen from over 700 application world-wide for the SAMA-conference in 2009, where only 72 had been excepted to display at the "Museum of Man" in San Diego
